Lucky Charm

Ejected from the sheets
I wake to my reality
Left you behind in reverie
I try to go back in my sleep

I told the truth
You’re the one of my dreams
It continues every night
I look for you in the deep

My arms remember holding
and it’s been way too long
You were tired and weak
I tried to be your strong

Invited to come
from afar, and I did
This heart was only yours
I gave it more on that trip

Ahhh, I grasped you tightly
and tried to ease your pains
As we sat in the park
staring at man-made rains

A paradigm shift occurred
everything went in reverse
Static and white noise
as I survive the curse

Connected in the wires
Connected in my veins
Working from the inside out
Reverse engineering my brain

Perhaps a strategy went bad
as cryptic agendas broke the view
Creating dependencies like a drug
and turned away when I need you

The eyes of a cherub can close
to this crazy thing called love
But for me it lasts forever
No desire to give up

I’ll never release my lucky charm
and it’s the hope that saves
There’s only one star in my night
and I’ll take it to the grave
