Snake Oil Love

Sometimes alone,

needs of the soul reveal their existence

Heart and stomach are painful foes,

remembering the past

Once again,

begging turmoil to release a prisoner

Sleepless nights accepting misconceptions,

recalling all I believed in

I gave my all,

not much of me remains

Butterflies fluttering,

throughout my heart and belly

Impossible to avoid spewing,

cleaning my body of this toxic passion

Your venom continues in my veins

No antidote,

my eyes begin to slowly close

Insisting all you had was real,

sent my heart into this toil

If you could only know how it feels,

as you continue selling your snake oil
