Melodic Caress

As my eyes settle
upon my one
luminous flower
The light of its flame
burns, as my only desire

What you see as faults
or a rip in your petals
Simply bring to my lips
and make it sweet
like honey and wine

My souls pollen
as I forget every other
like star dust
I absorb your colors
and trickles from your eyes

If you used to kneel, pleading
with heaven too many times
Look into my eyes
as I kiss
the scars on your knees

If you continue seeing rain
open yourself for me
My soul will kiss yours
as our passions release
one by one, every pain

Devout Notes

I’m always hearing music
so I must be listening too close
Seeking answers in the lyrics
Adhering to every word spoke

It’s said that insanity is surely defined
Doing the same thing over and over again
I always find myself wanting to go back
and again, I find the means to an end

If I tried to run away
there would be a repeated proof
The asylum is ineludible
and I’m clearly crazy for you

Trying every method to remove
what the conductor put in me
Binding strings of a puppet master
inspired to play this symphony

The end of days may not come soon
but someday, in that palace of the sky
I’ll look in the directory
for the one with celestial eyes

I’ll ask for only five minutes
I’ll try to explain in the short time
All I was never able to find words for
in the world of yours and mine

Love for only giving, could have been
but, was too often unforgiving
Broken hearts simply tried to survive
but, life without you was not living

There was no peace where there was pride
and I’m not looking for alibies
But always found myself asking why
even apart, your happiness was mine

We promised it’s unconditional
but didn’t survive dark times
Silence as our backs turned
to conceal the cries

Two things I’m sure I surely knew for sure
as I waited for a shooting star in the sky
What I gave to you is always yours
Till the end of time, this love abides

Stagnant Tide (First Sonnet)

An orchestra blasts as the curtain closes at the end of a performance and as the speaker approaches the stage microphone.
“Thank you all for your presence tonight! Deepest apologies, but one of our premium performers cancelled and we’ve allowed a peasant from the coast named, hmm hmm, Scott Mitchell to recite HIS FIRST sonnet during intermission. Perhaps use this time to visit the restrooms or getting refreshments.”
A small gang of teenagers snicker as they disperse rotten tomatoes to their mates, in preparation to bombard the stage.
As bagpipes begin to play softly, the teens resist the urge and a curious audience returns to their seats.
Seated in the center of the stage, with long hair blocking view of his downward staring face, is the peasant using a candle as his reading light. The musicians pause and then start again, synchronous, as he begins reading…

“Throwing bottles to the sea with last hopes
replies from the queen were to no avail
In each, contained a small piece of his heart
each one was destined to where he once sailed
Spent himself, he did, on rejecting ears
her angel eyes he dreamed of, turned away
Accepting the fate of all of his fears
moments shared with others did not ease pain
In dark days he accepted his demise
seduced to follow a new warrior’s quest
Still, echoes of memories pierced his eyes
yearning for one more chance to give his best

Outside the queen’s window, a proof of sort
undying love in bottles filled her port”

Dare we?

Our backs pressed together yet so far apart
both staring at the stars
not making a sound

Dare we……..forget the past and make a start
we’ll be face to face
we’ll both turn around
~
If I……..were to look into those big brown eyes
and ask you to be mine,
would you take my hand?

If you……..were to walk with me alone tonight
you would see all I need,
two sets of footprints in the sand
~
The limits we can take this is so out of sight
the drum in my chest beats
and I know you can feel

If I……..stare too hard or hold you tight
I’m not trying to hurt you
I just want to be sure you’re real
~
If we……..step into an unknown sea
I can only promise one thing
you’ll always be all I need

I’m euphoric……..to have you with me
Before tonight,
you were only a dream
~
Any moment that I take my eyes off you
it’s only to see the path ahead
so I can help you through

You……..will never need to ask for truth
It’s an honorable sacrifice
to give all of me to you
~
Would you……..sail away tonight with me
We’ll throw uncertainty to the breeze
Dare we?

Forever

Forever

I thought I’d always be near
to absorb your pains
Fate separated
but my desire remains

I’m writing this for you
as we’re off to new starts
Please print it and place it
in a pocket near your heart

When you’re feeling down
from events of the day
Force a smile to bloom
upon your pretty face

I’ve learned how your heart is
Sweet with good purpose
You need to be strong girl
this world is a circus

Our plan changed greatly
as I’m not there to hold
Yet there’s a place in my heart
and it never grows cold

Healing words elude me
to sponge away the blue
But a special promise lives,
remember? I keep it only for you

Twinkling Lucidity

With her fingertips resting in his palm, he gazes peacefully over the candle lit table into her eyes and discloses his heart.
My angel eyes, you are the woman of my dreams. When I look at you I see an eternity, past and future. A past of waiting to find you and a future wanting to hold you forever.
Looking back at him with moist eyes she answers
Awww baby, thank you for making me so happy!
His daze continues as the bayside breeze makes the candlelight shadows dance upon her face.
He thinks to himself “am I dreaming?” and then realizes he spoke it aloud.
She pinches his arm and they both smile. The stare continues…

~

My angel eyes, if you only knew all you are for me
you’d always know that I love you
My heart’s desire, believe that you are my everything
I want you now and forever

Newton explained why the apple fell from the tree
now I’ve fallen for you
Drawn to you and caught in inescapable gravity
you’re the apple of my eye

In the time of my darkest moment, a light from the moon
now you’re my inspiration
Stars pushed away the clouds and heaven blessed me with you
even more than I prayed for

Looking upward would be futile now, it’s definitely true
your smile glistens more than a star specked sky
If I changed direction, I’d be a determined fool
I’ll stay in this abundance of all I need

Soon I will get on a plane, but you need to know
my heart endures here with you
Two thousand miles away and I’ll continue to hold
my promises, and I’ll prove them true

Ensuing Embrace

Life and exhilaration
return to a heart
Not for an experience today
Prospecting a dream
for tomorrow

A symphony of emotion
anticipations evolve in a field
of accelerated blossoms
and dance as I wade
under blue skies

Murmurs of a warm soft breeze
tell of hope
A piano concerto in my skin
foretelling the presence
of your touch

From afar I’ll travel
with one resolve
An angel of auburn complexion
pink lush rims
outlining a radiant smile

Scott Mitchell
